Run, hike, climb,fish

come on one of our adventures

There is no better way to spend quality time with our friends and family in the Eastern Sierra than having them with us on one of our adventures. We realize that many of you have jobs and lives at home, but we hope you can stick around after the wedding for a few days and experience the Sierra, Allison-and-Kevan-Style. We haven't determined what we are going to do yet, but it will entail some trail running, hiking, climbing and fishing (we promise to include tamer options for those who may not want to climb 10,000' mountains or go on 10-mile morning runs!). Send us a note and let us know if you are interested in partaking in any of these activities. We would love to have you join us.

The Eastern Sierra and the Mammoth Lakes area provide visitors with a lot of adventures to be had. Hiking, climbing, running, biking (mtn and road), fishing, site seeing, shopping and golfing are all within minutes of Mammoth Lakes. A visitors guide to Mammoth lakes can be found here. During this time of the year, the fall colors in the Eastern Sierra make for beautiful scenery and majestic backdrop for adventuring out. We hope that our guests will have an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area while they are here for our wedding. If you would like addditional ideas or options, please don't hesistate to ask us.

Hiking/Trail Running: From easy strolls to strenuous peaks, the Eastern Sierra has it all. Here is a list of some of our favorites. Crystal Lake, Rock Creek and Little Lakes Valley, Dragon's Back, Thousand Island Lakes, Mammoth Rock Trail and Conness Lakes.

Climbing: There are numerous places to climb in the Eastern Sierra. Our favorite, is Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. Closer to Mammoth, you will find the Buttermilks, Crystal Crag and Clark Canyon. If you are interested in climbing, please let us know and you can borrow one of our guide books or we would happy to join you!

Fishing: Mammoth is known as one of the best trout fishing destinations in the west. You will need a Californina fishing license which can be purchased from one of the local fishing shops. Kevan recommends the Troutfitter for all your needs. As for fishing, the Mammoth Lakes basin has numerous lakes to chose from. Lake Mary, George and Mamie are always good choices. Convict Lake is also a top choice. If you are up for a little drive, Rock Creek to south and Lundy Lake to the north are also good options.

Golfing: There are two golf courses in the town of Mammoth lakes, Sierra Star and Snow Creek. Sierra Star is a 18 hole, par 70 course and Snow Creek is a 9-hole, par 35 course. Theoretically, you should be able to hit your ball farther at high altitude. Get out there and test your skill at high altitude.

Sight-Seeing: There are numerous historical landmarks and scenic destinations to see around the Mammoth Lakes area. Devils Postpile National Monument, Hot Creek, Mammoth and Jume Lake Scenic Loops are all within a few minutes of town. For those willing to drive a bit further, Mono Lake, Bodie State Historical Park, Yosemite/Tuolumne Meadows/Tioga Pass are all within an hour's drive.

Fall Colors: While not as abundant as the East Coast fall colors, the Eastern Sierra provides a majestic backdrop for beautiful fall colors on stunning mountainsides. A Eastern Sierra fall color guide can be found here, and an updated color map can be found here.
